Sources of the Reviews

To evaluate passenger satisfaction at Dubai International Airport, reviews from two widely used platforms were analyzed:

  • Google Reviews, where thousands of travelers share ratings and comments about their real experiences at the airport.
  • Skytrax, a global aviation rating organization that collects detailed passenger reviews about airports, airlines, and travel services worldwide.

Google reviews provide a broad and up-to-date overview based on many travelers’ experiences, while Skytrax reviews focus on aspects such as terminal comfort, cleanliness, staff service, food and retail facilities, and immigration procedures.

According to Skytrax, Dubai International Airport currently holds a 3-Star Airport rating, reflecting its performance across facilities, comfort, cleanliness, shopping, food and beverage options, and staff service.

Summary of Passenger Reviews

Positive Feedback

One of the most commonly praised aspects of DXB is its large range of services and facilities. Many travelers highlight the extensive shopping areas, particularly the famous duty-free stores, as well as the wide variety of restaurants and cafés throughout the terminals.

Another frequently mentioned advantage is the airport’s global connectivity. Dubai is one of the world’s busiest international airports and a major global hub linking Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.  This connectivity allows passengers to reach hundreds of destinations with convenient connections.

Passengers also appreciate the modern infrastructure and cleanliness of many areas, especially in newer parts of the airport such as Terminal 3. Reviews often describe the airport as well maintained, with modern lounges and comfortable waiting areas.

Many Skytrax reviews also mention that airport staff are generally helpful and professional, assisting travelers during check-in, security, and transit processes.

Finally, the airport is often praised for its shopping and dining experience, which is considered among the best in the world for airports.

Negative Feedback

Despite many positive comments, some passengers also report several drawbacks.

The most common complaint concerns the size and complexity of the airport. Because DXB is extremely large and busy, walking distances between gates can be long and transfers sometimes require significant time.

Another issue mentioned in reviews is crowding, particularly during peak travel periods. With millions of passengers passing through the airport every year, some areas can become congested.

Passengers also occasionally mention long queues at immigration or security, especially during busy times of the day.

A final criticism is that certain parts of the airport are older and less modern compared with the newest terminals in other global hubs.

Final Rating

Overall score: 8 / 10

Justification

Dubai International Airport receives strong reviews due to its excellent global connectivity, huge range of shopping and dining options, modern facilities in several terminals, and generally helpful staff. It is also one of the most important international aviation hubs in the world.

However, the airport’s very high passenger traffic, large size, and occasional congestion can sometimes reduce the comfort of the travel experience.

Overall, DXB is widely considered a high-quality international hub airport, especially valued for long-haul connections and its extensive services for transit passengers.

How we calculate On Time Performance

On various pages of our website, you will encounter a metric widely utilized in aviation and other forms of transportation known as OTP (On Time Performance). We believe that providing this metric assists passengers in planning their trips and exploring alternatives before purchasing their flight tickets.

We calculate the On Time Performance for all flights and airlines, when we have enough data to do so. In certain instances, it may not be feasible to accurately compute the On-Time Performance for a specific flight or airline due to inadequate or non-representative data, which could result in misleading conclusions.

Our calculation of On Time Performance and delay information solely relies on arrival times. This approach is chosen over calculating departure delays, as we consider arrival punctuality to be of primary concern to passengers.

The On Time Performance displayed on our website is calculated as follows:

  • On Time: Flights that arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, or earlier. In the absence of data for a specific flight, we assume the flight arrives on time, to avoid penalizing airlines for data unavailability.
  • Moderate Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay of 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Significant Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay of 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Major Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay exceeding 60 minutes.
  • Average Delay: The average delay is calculated by considering flights that arrive early as having a delay of 0 minutes. Early arrivals do not contribute to reducing the average delay calculation
